Bed On Fire Does The Thing
Last year Tas went to LA to shoot a music video for G. They had sent Tas a few selects from their new album with free rein to choose which to shoot an MV for. The anthemic Bed On Fire hit like a ton of bricks from the first listen, and it turns out that feeling seems to be pretty universal.
It was released in September, and over the next 6 months it garnered a couple of hundred thousand views. We were stoked with how it came out, but a little surprised the song didn’t go as hard on the algo as expected.
About a month ago the song was picked up and featured in Prime Video series, Off Campus. I don't know if it was because the show featured the entire length of the song, or if it was because it was a peak moment in the series or simply because the song goes hard af, but the song exploded. It's now back in the ARIA charts and the music video we made for it has had over 2.6 million views.
The point, if you're a musician, get yourself a publisher.
Nice Day To Go To The Club
I remember when Big Brother first aired, it was cutting edge. That premise had never been executed before, so like most Australians I tuned in. For a few episodes, before the novelty wore off. One thing that did hold my attention was one of the participants. Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald. One memory in particular where he was spending his time doing ridiculous dives into the pool. Something so novel was enough to tell me that we had the same spirit, I knew we could be friends.
Fast forward around 12 years and standing right next to me in Violent Soho’s steaming hot dressing room is non other than Fitzy. We strike up a convo about his mates Bad//Dreems shirt and become friends. The prophecy had begun.
Over the next decade Fitzy supported me across multiple pursuits. He bought my prints, donated to my fundraisers and always shared positive feedback about my work. So when he launched ‘Nice Day To Go To The Club’ to raise money for his childhood footy club I wanted to throw my support behind it.
However, fitzy didn’t need my support. The first year it saved the footy club, the next year it secured them financially and now the festival is an annual mark on the calendar that sees the most in demand domestic and international punk and rock bands converge on Port Noarlunga, Adelaide.
I went this year. Although Fitzy was hosting all the bands he still put myself and my brother up in a hotel and had us at his place the eve of the fest for the traditional BBQ with the bands.
It rained on the festival the following day but i didn’t see one damp spirit in the crowd of thousands. I did see tonnes of wet tins though. It felt like a rare day. One of the last surviving independent small music festivals where the bands are in the crowd watching the other bands, the entire day is void of judgement and everyone is happy.
I wish every day was like ‘Nice Day To Go To The Club'‘ but if it were it wouldn’t be so special. So I’ll be waiting for next year so I can dive back in, like Fitzy in BB.
Corpo Xmas ( PARTY )
Having spent most of our adult lives working for ourselves we’ve been stiffed come xmas time. We’d quietly sip our beer, that we paid for, and watch all of our mates going to their big fancy company xmas parties. All expenses paid, food, drinks, the works. Poor us.
We ripped through our first 6 months of Corp Giant, ticking boxes we expected wouldn’t be ticked for years and we felt there’d be no better way to celebrate than to throw our own xmas party. Mainly for our contractors who’d likely be facing the same xmas partyless Decemeber that we’d faced so many years before. We also wanted to thank a few supportive clients, friends and family. Young Henry slung us beers, LoFi wines were generous as were Tortas & Tacos.
Our host Ben at Sucker won the Meatsmith meat tray….. seemed dodgy at the time but i can assure you, the raffle process was all above board.
Much like my memory of the night, theres a few images from early on, they get a bit blurry, then totally disappear.
This year…. shall we level up?
